Simultaneously with the launch of the AMD Radeon Pro W5500, a new GPU that offers advanced performance and functionality to meet the needs of modern professionals working in areas such as design, architecture and engineering & construction (AEC), the Sunnyvale company announced the new AMD Radeon Pro W5500M for next generation mobile workstation.

Taking advantage of the very high performance offered by AMD’s RDNA architecture and thanks to GDDR6 memory, the Radeon Pro W5500 GPU offers up to 25% higher clock performance than the previous generation’s Graphics Core Next (GCN) architecture. The main features of the Radeon Pro W5500 graphics card include:

Incredible multitasking performance – Radeon Pro W5500 provides better application management (up to 10x) with a multitasking workload than the competition with respect to the SPECviewperf 13 benchmark.
Realistic Energy Efficiency – The combination of AMD RDNA architecture and Radeon Pro for Enterprise software allows the Radeon Pro W5500 to adapt to the power needs of professional applications, consuming up to 32% less energy on average in the design workflow of models in SOLIDWORKS compared to the competition.
Professional-level software – Radeon Pro Software for Enterprise offers performance improvements with every release. Support for AMD Remote Workstation is also provided, which allows professionals to access their physical workstations from anywhere.
The Radeon Pro W5500 GPU will be on sale starting from mid-February at the price of $ 399, at major retailers, while the Radeon Pro W5500M GPU will be available in the professional mobile workstations of the main OEMs (HP, ASUS, Lenovo, etc.) at from spring 2020.

AMD Radeon Pro W5500M

As you can imagine, the two graphics cards have many technical specifications in common, but also some differences that affect performance and consumption. The AMD Radeon Pro W5500M uses AMD’s RDNA architecture, outperforming the previous generation’s IPC by 25% and significantly improving efficiency. This model has a TDP of only 85 watts, significantly lower than the previous generation and also compared to the desktop version Radeon Pro W5500, whose TDP is 125 watts. It consumes up to 32% less energy than its direct competitors in SolidWorks and is part of the Radeon Pro for Business platform, which offers periodic driver updates to improve performance and stability, adds new features and is ISV certified.

AMD Radeon Pro W5500M has a total of 22 Compute Units, which equals a total of 1408 Shading Units. It has 88 TMUs, 128-bit buses and 4GB of GDDR6 memory, offering a bandwidth of 224 GB / s. AMD has confirmed that the graphics card offers FP79 (float) power of 4.79 TFLOP, slightly below the Radeon Pro W5500 which reaches 5.35 TFLOP.

AMD Remote Workstation is a solution that allows professionals to access their workstations practically anywhere, enjoying a totally optimal experience thanks to Citrix or Microsoft Remote Desktop virtual apps and desktops.
