DJI Matrice 100

It seems that it is time to return to DJI. After the Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 returned for sale in early January with lots of updated firmware, it is the turn of the Matrice 100: the drone purely designed for developers launched in 2015. With the release in 2017 of the M200 family, the Matrice 100 had gradually disappeared from circulation, resulting out of stock, impossible to buy until recently. We were therefore surprised when a few hours ago we discovered that today it is possible to buy the Matrice 100 again on the official DJI online shop with shipping in 2-5 working days.

Note that at the moment the Matrice 100 is in stock only for Italian and European customers, in the USA it continues to be out of stock. For now, DJI has not issued any official press release on the return of the Matrix 100 as it did on the occasion of the Phantom 4 Pro V 2.0. In addition, the firmware is still the one updated in October 2018. Elements that would make us think more of some unused warehouse stock and now put back on sale rather than an actual return of production. Also because the characteristics of the M100 in terms of the possibility of development and payload installation in some cases can annoy the drones of the M200 series that cost much more.

In fact, the Matrice 100 can accommodate the Zenmuse X3, X5 gimbal camera, the XT thermal gimbal camera, the Zenmuse Z30 (30x zoom) and with the N1 Video Encoder accessory any camera equipped with AV or HDMI output. In this case the return video will be integrated into the DJI GO as if you were using a Zenmuse. Furthermore, with the Payload SDK Development Kit it is practically possible to integrate any payload. The presence of 2 CAN BUS and and 2 UART ports expand the interfacing possibilities.

In short, the Matrix 100 although with 5 years behind it still offers many possibilities for customized solutions so that for some applications it can be a very valid alternative at a lower cost than the M200, at least until it is on sale.
