During CES 2020, which will open its doors starting next week, Lenovo will show us the news dedicated to its family of professional “Think” devices: a new ThinkCentre M90a All-in-One (AIO) designed for safety, usability and productivity, the incredible ThinkVision Creator Extreme 1000 nits display and the ThinkVision T34w-20 curved monitor, as well as the latest ThinkPad X1 series notebooks with updated hardware platform. And it is precisely on these devices that we would like to focus, thanks to the first information released by the Chinese company, waiting to be able to see them live.

Designed for the productivity of professionals and businesses, Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon and ThinkPad X1 Yoga are perhaps Lenovo’s best-known notebooks, the ones with the best features and performance, which is why they are updated every year at CES in Las Vegas. And of course 2020 is no exception, with the release of new versions (Gen8 and Gen5 respectively) with 10th generation Intel Core vPro processors, a new keyboard, additional security features and support for WiFi 6. Both will be available in the 2020 price (it is not clear exactly when) at the starting price of $ 1499 and $ 1599 respectively.

The legendary durability and user experience of the ThinkPads continues with the new ThinkPad X1 Carbon and ThinkPad X1 Yoga, which will take the place of the models currently on the market (respectively seventh and fourth generation). Both tested according to military specifications, the two notebooks offer Dolby Atmos audio, a choice of display between 4K HDR with Dolby Vision or PrivacyGuard FHD 500 nit, a keyboard with maximum typing comfort with new keys dedicated to unified Voice-over-IP communication and different security solutions. In particular, we point out ThinkShield for protection against computer “intrusions”, ThinkPad PrivacyGuard and the ThinkPad PrivacyAlert software for protecting the screen from prying eyes.

The two notebooks share the chassis and therefore maintain the weight and thickness of the previous generation models (1.09 kilograms / 14.9 mm and 1.3 kilograms / 15.25 mm respectively). They are also based on the same Intel Comet Lake-U platform (Core i5 / i7 and i5 / i7 vPro) including the Core i7 hex-core, integrated Intel UHD graphics, 8 / 16GB of LPDDR3 RAM and up to 2TB of PCIe SSD disk space. The innovations compared to the previous generation are basically two: a new keyboard with a series of buttons for instant Voice-over-IP access (Skype for example) and support for WiFi 6.

Lenovo has also added a new display option: both ThinkPad X1 Carbon and ThinkPad X1 Yoga can be configured with 14-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) and 500 nits IPS screens, in addition to the usual optionally touch 400 nits panels, IPS WQHD 300 nit or HDR 400 4K Ultra HD 500 nit and 10bit. This new display is also available with Lenovo’s PrivacyGuard filter.

The equipment is completed by 2 USB 3.1 (Gen1) ports, 2 Thunderbolt 3 ports, HDMI 1.4, 802.11ax WiFi, NFC and 4G / LTE (Cat.9 / Cat.16), a fingerprint sensor, Dolby Atmos speaker and four microphones. To complete the data sheet, there are also data on autonomy: 10-15 hours (for Yoga X1) and 10-18 hours (for X1 Carbon) with 51Wh battery for both
