Pre-orders are open (also in Italy) of the first foldable notebook in history: Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold with Intel Lakefield CPU and 13.3-inch flexible OLED display is available in Italy at the price of 2799 euros (VAT included).

Officially presented last January at CES 2020, where we had the opportunity to preview it live, Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold is finally ready for commercialization. There is no precise launch date yet, but the Chinese company has opened pre-orders and promised that it will be available in Italy (as well as in the rest of Europe) in the coming weeks at the starting price of 2799 euros (excluding VAT). , much more than the $ 2499 required in the US. It will be very expensive then, but it will also be the first foldable notebook in the history of computing.

As its name suggests, the ThinkPad X1 Fold is a foldable laptop consisting of a single internal “flexible” display that folds in half, thanks to special four-link hinges with a friction-free rotation mechanism. Specifically, it is a 13.3-inch QXGA (2042 x 1536 pixel) OLED touch screen with 10 contact points but anti-glare, with brightness of 300 nits, contrast ratio of 5000: 1 and color coverage of 95% DCI- P3. Thanks to the aspect ratio of 4: 3, when folded, this display splits into two smaller 9.6-inch screens.

Just as promised at launch, the hardware platform will be based on a 1.4GHz Intel Core i5-L16G7 (Lakefield) processor with integrated Intel UHD 620 graphics, the first penta-core (5 core) with 7W TDP, consisting of a powerful Sunny Cove core and four smaller Atom Tremont cores. On board also 8GB of LPDDR4 RAM at 4266MHz (soldered) and M.2 NVMe PCIe 3.0 x4 (2242) SSD storage for a maximum total capacity of 1TB. At the time of writing, Lenovo offers three configurations for Italy, all with the same processor and RAM but with a 256GB or 512GB SSD.

Turning to connectivity, Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold integrates an optional 5G module (Foxconn SDX55 5G T99W175-sub6 Cat.20), WiFi 802.11ax (2×2, Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX200), Bluetooth 5.1 and also two USB 3.2 Type-C ports (Gen2) but there’s no trace of a traditional audio connector, USB or HDMI port. A USB-C to Ethernet adapter will be included in the box. The equipment is completed by two speakers (2 x 1W Dolby Atmos) and a 5MP infrared webcam for authentication via facial recognition thanks to Windows Hello technology.

The latest data concerns autonomy: Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold is integrated with a 50Wh lithium polymer battery that should ensure almost 11 hours of video playback and fast charging in an hour (from 0 to 80%). The pre-installed operating system is Windows 10.
