Electric pedal assisted bikes are perfect for mountain fun. Thanks to the assistance of electric motors, it is possible to tackle major climbs or very hard routes with greater ease, usually for those who have very specific training. Obviously we need to focus on dedicated products such as eMTB, i.e. electric MTB. Compared to city or trekking bikes, they have more robust frames, suspensions made specifically for dirt roads, more powerful brakes and more performing engines on climbs.
However, there is a problem called “autonomy”. Electric motors consume a lot on climbs. Even if you want to use very low assistance levels, you still find yourself calculating the distance you can take to avoid staying dry at the most demanding moment. A problem that seems to have solved the new Olympia PowerNine 900Wh.
LOTS OF AUTONOMY
It is a specific battery for some models of the Olympia brand that has a capacity of 900 Wh, a value well above the average of the accumulators available for the 2 wheels. To make it, 50 automotive-derived cells were used. This allowed to contain the dimensions. PowerNine 900Wh does not even affect the weight of the eBike since its weight on the scale is similar to that of a 630 Wh battery made with the previous technology.
This accumulator has been designed to be integrated into the bike frame. This is an advantage that is not only aesthetic but also dynamic, given that this choice improves the balance of the 2 wheels. Speaking of autonomy, Olympia declares that in the plains, a 70 kg cyclist can travel up to 290 km on a single charge.
But what is most impressive is the ability to travel on hilly or mountain routes: up to 120 km with 2,400 meters in altitude and up to 85 km with 4,000 meters in altitude using medium-low levels 1-2-3. In short, just anxious to run out of battery uphill. Charging takes 6 hours.
But this accumulator brings an additional advantage to the eBikes (Here the guide) that will mount it. Thanks to a refinement of the electronics, the new “R” level has been introduced which offers more torque, more power and reactivity, with shorter response times.
