Samsung has launched Exynos 1080, a 5nm octa-core processor that will make mid-range smartphones / tablets powerful and fast, with an almost double performance boost. The first terminal will be signed by ViVO.
The new Samsung Exynos 1080 processor is an octa-core chip designed for medium-high-end smartphones which, according to what was communicated by the company, should bring a 50% increase in single-core performance and even double those in multi- core, thus making mid-range devices very competitive compared to high-end smartphones / tablets equipped with more powerful processors (on paper). But the surprises don’t end there.

The new Exynos 1080 is also the first chip made by Samsung with the 5nm EUV process. At least at the moment, it’s just marketing because Samsung’s 5nm manufacturing process isn’t the same as Apple’s, and – although AMD and Intel haven’t released 5nm chips yet – they still use different definitions. The 5nm migration, however, represents a nodal shift for Samsung that should also bring improvements in energy efficiency.

Samsung Exynos 1080 is a chip composed of eight cores, of which one ARM Cortex-A78 at 2.8GHz, three ARM Cortex-A8 at 2.6GHz and four ARM Cortex-A55 at 2GHz, flanked by Mali-G78 MP10 graphics, one NPU ( Integrated Neural Processing Unit) and 5G modem.

According to Samsung, this processor will be able to support devices with displays (up to) Full HD + and refresh rate of 144Hz or QHD + display and refresh rate of 90Hz. Other features include support for LPDDR5 RAM, UFS 3.1 storage, cameras up to 200MP (or dual-camera 32GB with 4K HDR and 60fps video recording), WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.0 and 5G both sub-6GHz and mmWave. From the first rumors it would seem that ViVO will be the first company to launch a smartphone with this processor.
