Q74T is a new series of Samsung QLED TVs created as an alternative to the Q70T models. The “power” ratios between Q74T and Q70T are the same that we have described talking about the Q64T and Q60T series. At the moment on the official Samsung website (link in SOURCE) there is only the 55 “cut with the initials QE55Q74TATXZT. The basic equipment does not differ from that found on the Q70T. The panel is a VA type Ultra HD LED Edge with Quantum Dot and a refresh rate of 100/120 Hz.
As on the Q64T, Q60T, The Frame 2020 and Ultra HD TU8500 we find Dual LED technology with two distinct groups of “white” LEDs with a different color temperature: 10,000K and 6,500K. The televisions that are equipped with them can control the color temperature in relation to the content or the video mode to obtain more faithful and natural images.
The design takes up the black version of the Q70T (it is also available in gray with a base consisting of two separate elements) but with a black livery for the frame and eclipse silver for the base and the lower edge. The table stand hooks near the center and has a “T” shape. As for the Q64T, the One Remote silver colored remote control is supplied instead of the black plastic one.
The video processor is the 4K Quantum Processor with 4K AI Upscaling, a technology that improves the quality of signals in Full HD, HD and SD (standard definition) resolution by combining so-called “machine learning” with “deep learning”. The Q74T is equipped with the PQI (Picture Quality Index) 3500 against the PQI 3400 of the Q70T series. Q74T should therefore show an overall better ability in processing images (in terms of contrast, motion, color, etc.), albeit with a not very pronounced difference.
The software processing that analyzes the screen to increase the contrast ratio also changes: on the Q74T we have the Ultimate UHD Dimming instead of the Supreme UHD Dimming. The rest of the specs are shared. High dynamic range movies are supported in HDR10, HLG and HDR10 + formats with dynamic metadata. The new Adaptive Picture function activates the automatic adjustment of brightness and contrast according to the various contexts of ambient light.
Adaptive Sound + applies a principle similar to sound. The QLED TV analyzes scenes in real time to recognize the type of audio and reproduce it in the most suitable way for each source. Speaking of technologies related to sound, the Active Voice Amplifier must also be mentioned, a solution designed to adjust the volume of dialogue when noise is detected in the environment.
Obviously the Tizen-based Smart TV could not be missing with all the functions created for the Samsung platform. Q74T also offers extensive support for voice assistants: the user can interact with Bixby, Alexa and Google Assistant.
As for the functions of HDMI 2.1 we find HFR (High Frame Rate) with Ultra HD at 120 Hz and Full HD at 120 Hz (on the HDMI 4 port), Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), FreeSync, Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) and eARC. DVB-T2 and DVB-S2 tuners and compatibility with HbbTV in version 2.0.1 complete the equipment.
