Sony has announced the US list prices of ZG9 TVs. This new series uses 8K (7680 x 4320 pixel) 85 “and 98” LCD panels. Full LED backlighting is combined with Backlight Master Drive technology, characterized by a higher density of independently controlled LED modules. It should therefore be a worthy heir to the ZD9s.
Sony has also integrated the X-tended Dynamic Range PRO 8K technology to enhance the brightness peaks. The specifications show a contrast ratio 20 times higher than that of a common TV with LED backlight. All processing is entrusted to the X1 Ultimate processor, optimized here to manage the panel’s over 33 million pixels. To optimize upscaling, the 8K X-Reality PRO technology has been developed.
The viewing angle has been extended thanks to X-Wide Angle, a filter (already present on the ZF9 series) that improves color reproduction when looking at the screen from angled positions. The moving images make use instead of the contribution provided by the X-Motion Clarity technology. The audio section is called Acoustic Multi-Audio and is derived from the Acoustic Surface Audio present on Sony OLEDs. The placement of the speakers should ensure a better positioning of the dialogues than the images on the screen.
HDR compatibility covers the HDR10, HLG and Dolby Vision formats. Android TV in Oreo version, HDMI 2.1 (which will be activated through an update) and support for Apple Assistant, AirPlay 2 and HomeKit complete the equipment. Prices are as follows:
KD-85ZG9 (85 “): 12.999.99 dollars
KD-98ZG9 (98 “): $ 69,999.99
