VAIO (not to be confused with Sony anymore) has presented two new ultra-laptops, or rather a new VAIO SX14 and an updated SKU for the VAIO SX12 launched last year. Both notebooks have a lot in common: they are characterized by the same design and integrate Intel Comet Lake processors (up to the hexa core), a wide range of interfaces and even optional 4G / LTE modem, but they differ in the diagonal of the display and obviously for size and weight.

Built with a carbon fiber and plastic frame, VAIO SX12 has a 12.5-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) non-touch display in the size of an 11-inch notebook (thickness of 15.7-18 mm and weight of 906 grams ) while VAIO SX14 has a 14-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) non-touch screen in the dimensions of a 13 inches (thickness of 15.6-18 mm and weight of 1.06Kg). In substance, however, the two models are equivalent.
VAIO SX12 (2020) and VAIO SX14 (2020) are based on quad-core Intel Core i5-10210U and hexa-core Core i7-10710U 10th gen processors and Intel UHD Graphics, with 8 / 16GB LPDDR3 2133 MHz and SSD from 256GB PCIe or SATA. Like other VAIO PCs, the new notebooks fully support the Japanese company’s “TruePerformance” technology, which combines advanced cooling and CPU overclocking to increase performance over long work sessions.
VAIO SX12 (2020)
Like the previous generation VAIO SX12, the new VAIO SX12 (2020) has a door kit unthinkable for such a small ultraportable. In particular: an RJ-45 (Gigabit Ethernet), a USB 3.1 Type-C Gen2 port that can be used for data transfer, video signal and charging, a USB 3.1 Type-A Gen2 port, two USB 3.0 Type-A ports, an SD card reader, two video outputs (HDMI, VGA), a 3.5 mm audio jack and a proprietary connector for power supply. As for wireless technologies, the notebook is equipped with an 802.11ac + Bluetooth 4.1 WiFi module and an optional 4G / LTE modem. In addition, it has a webcam with IR sensors for facial recognition, a fingerprint reader under the keyboard, stereo speakers and a microphone. The VAIO SX14 model has exactly the same equipment, although it is less surprising for a 14-inch.
VAIO SX12 has an autonomy of over 13 hours per single charge, while VAIO SX14 boasts a maximum operation of 11 hours away from the current, but for neither of them the company has communicated the battery capacity data. The operating system is Windows 10 Pro.
