Nokia Streaming Box 8000

Nokia Streaming Box 8000 is official and available for purchase in Germany, Austria and Switzerland: in recent days some first news had emerged, thanks to Nokia’s partner company for the operation, the Austrian StreamView. The company said there would also be televisions, but for the moment there is no trace: we will have to wait a few days, probably.

As you can see from the images, Streaming Box 8000 has very angular shapes and rather compact dimensions: the remote control is full of buttons (backlit), among which those specific for Assistant, Netflix, YouTube, Prime Video and Google Play stand out. The device is based on Android TV 10 with integrated Chromecast support and has rather low-end technical specifications:

Amlogic S905X3 SoC
Arm Cortex-A53 based quad-core CPU
Arm Mali-G31 MP2 GPU
RAM: 2GB, DDR3
Storage: 8GB, eMMC
Wi-Fi ac, Bluetooth 4.2 compatible with keyboards and gamepads
Doors:
1x HDMI
1x USB 3.0 Type-A
1x USB Type-C
1x Ethernet
1x 3.5mm audio jack
Dimensions: 112 x 112 x 24 mm
Weight: 250 g

The set-top box costs € 99. It is interesting to note that, neglecting the USB and Ethernet ports, the specifications are essentially identical to those of the new Google Chromecast – with just a few variations in the SoC – which costs 30 € less, is much more compact, has a newer OS and not. requires an external power supply. In any case, as we said, for now it can only be purchased in Austria, Germany and Switzerland. The official website says “free shipping throughout the EU”, but only one of these three countries can be specified at checkout. However, it should only be a matter of time: StreamView had already said the goal was to reach the whole of the EU.
